Difference between .pst file and .ost file

What is the difference between a .pst file and an .ost file?
Both .pst and .ost files almost have same features but the services vary according to the application in which they run. Some of the differences are:

.ost file

.pst file

.ost is a cached file.

.pst is a local file with stored emails.

.ost file starts as a mirror image of your folders on the Exchange Server, and works in conjunction with the Exchange Server during synchronization.

.pst file is simply a storage location on your hard disk or a server other than the Exchange Server.

OST mails cannot be read if you are not connected to network.

PST mails can be read without connecting to network.
